Cultural Notes for the Victorian reader, by Sir Thomas William Hackney III, cabin boy:
Toppy has herein made reference to an explosive that has not yet been invented as of the Aether Brigade’s departure from 1881. C4 may be thought of as a substance similar to dynamite but with a look and tactile properties similar to that of modelling clay. This allows for the explosive charge to be shaped affording the demolitions expert several engineering advantages. We have no idea how she keeps getting ahold of it, but we do know that Toppy likes to make “bunny rabbits” with it.
A Love Song (about Explosives), by Toppy
I know you would give me diamonds and pearls!
I know you would cross the sea and the worlds!
To bring me your love, all you need to do
is wrap up the C4 ‘n’ acetylene balloons!
So give me a spark to light up my love!
Give me a blast to burn the moon up above!
Give me a sparkling coil of twine
filled up with gunpowder so fine!
What else could our love be?
What else could you want of me?
I won’t keep the grenades under the bed
and you’ll expect smoldering out in the shed!
So give me some C4 ‘n’ acetylene balloons!
Give me the moon blown up and I’ll swoon!
Give me your love in oil and tar
And I will ignite for you every star!
What else would you want of me?
What else could you love more than me?
I won’t store the gunpowder in the pepper pot
If you let me keep the cannons I’ve got!
So give me some C4 ‘n’ acetylene balloons!
Give me the moon blown up and Ill swoon!
Keep the pearls, I’ll take diamonds if may…
To refract the light of our laser death ray!
So give me some C4 ‘n’ acetylene balloons!
Give me the moon blown up and ill swoon!
Give me me a spark to light up my love
And I shall rain down on you death from above!
